This is a varied but essential role that will see you working with those who are caring for someone experiencing mental ill health. As a key member of the team you will provide emotional and practical support to carers and helping them to manage the challenges they may experience as carer whilst also being able to have a life of their own.
You will achieve this by providing one to one telephone and face to face support. This may include providing a listening ear and providing information and signposting to community services and relevant resources. You will also help run a range of other activities.
In addition working closely with other community groups and statutory services you will ensure that the voice of mental health carers is heard and individuals can be informed of and signposted to community services and resources which will support them in their role.
You will be part of our small, friendly and highly committed Carer Support Service team who are based in South Tyneside.

- A proven track record or managing a caseload and supporting people to access information and services
- Awareness of the potential challenges of caring for someone experiencing mental ill health and the support available
- Ability to support and / or delivery different activities to engage and support carers
- Very good interpersonal skills with evidence of developing good working relationships at all levels both internally and externally
- Ability to work on your initiative, use your own judgement and make decisions
